Mercy Me (Acoustic) – Alkaline Trio

My trial HSC exams start in 3 days, excluding this afternoon. There is no doubt that these weeks have been the biggest stress out.

The photos above showcase my greatest achievement this year. That, my friends, is my Visual Arts Major Work. Its probably the most important thing to me this year. I’ve been working on it since November of last year, so it feels amazing to have completed it. You can see details of it below, but I’ll let my statement of intent explain;

These studies aim to capture those forgotten design elements and confront audiences of the unconsidered typographical devices seen daily, visually drawing audiences in to understand the manipulative strengths of each typeface choice, proving that type has the ability to change everything, while bringing new life and relevance to the magazine editorial form.

Its very art-wankery, but y’know. It feels so amazing to have it done and completed, even though now when it comes to the final stages I keep getting these amazing ideas for other concepts or ideas I could have done. The standard of the work from everyone this year has been so high, and the exhibition night from which these photos are from went incredibly well. It was incredible because all my friends turned up, from Tiffany and Sophia to Clinton and Vincent, it was so great.

Also, the second photo is me with the modeling I did for my friend a while back, pretty impressed with how that turned out (yeah, I was “suffocating”).

In other noticeable and not-noticeable news; accidentally dyed my hair yellow (it will be fixed sometime within the next two weeks, until then feel free to call me Sunshine or Goldie Locks or whatever tickles your fancy), and got a Blackberry which I love excessively.

Its been a hecktic few days. Will only get better for the next two weeks with trial exams. Love senior year.

Waiting for My Chance to Come – Noah and the Whale

Yeah, I know, its been ages. I could pin it down to being really busy – because that is not a lie – but I could also pin it down to coming to most Sunday nights and just not being in the mood (even as I was in the middle of this I got distracted by charlieissocoollike). So I guess I’ll summarise my past 3 weeks in a bunch of dot points.

• Had a lot of exams. I have completed all assessments for Art (I came first in the year), Software Design (including a major work) and maths, which is pretty big. Next up trials and then final exams and then out of high school.
• One more assessment left for this term. Holidays are in two weeks.
• Visited the Rose Seidler House for art on the 7th. Its basically a modernist house designed in 1948 and preserved in 1950′s modernism (current art case study).
• My friend Lilli’s 18th was on the 11th. Kind of a weird party, a bit like being back in year 9 because all the ‘old’ friends I don’t really talk to any more were there. But it was alright.
• A lot of time spent lately with my two old friends Tiffany and Sophia.
• Father and brother went to Taiwan the other week for a business thing, brought me back some stuff, including a beautiful watch and some industrial boots that – whenever I find time – I’ll modify with studs and stuff.
• Dyed my hair impulsively last week. I don’t believe that photo does the colour justice; it was intended to be a royal blonde kind of colour, though now its more caramel – my hair cannot be anything other than ginger, its official.

Naturally so much more has been going on, but its a bit… unnecessary to blog about. I think things’ll be ok though. Final year is stressful and its kind of building up and my body has been taking it out on me a bit but yeah. Something cool will happen soon, though, I hope. And if, in the miraculous chance, anything does happen, I’ll try to blog about it on time.

The first week of holidays has been fairly decent, I have to say. Mainly, my time is divided by people & school work. Gotten a fair bit done so far, and will probably continue well into the next week and a half. If I’m not watching the new Harry Potter blu ray, or on Tumblr, I’m out. Often doing nothing with Luke, or being fools with Maddie, Stacey, Stella, Luke and Fletcher (and a webcam), or out for coffee with Maddie and Stacey, or coffee with Chrystal, or getting my hair done.

So yeah. Thats been my week, basically.

As you can tell, new layout. I’m pretty iffy about this one, so I don’t know how long this will be up, but I’d been toying with an idea like this for ages so I figured I may as well. The previous layout had been up for a total of 5 months, which could be a record (Edit: it is). Ah well, we’ll see how this goes.

Other than that, not much is up. Its funny, even though this time last year, I was hardly as sociable or active or any of that, I don’t have more to say. Ah well, Easter soon. Big plans?

Its finally the holidays! Thank you all for your well wishing in my exam(s), I feel alright about them so hopefully they’ll go ok. I’m just enjoying the fact that I have two and a half weeks off! Two and a half weeks of studying how I want to for once, y’know? Got a fair bit to do but hey, it’ll be cool.

My weekend was cool. Mainly Saturday, lets be fair. During the day I went to Surry Hills Festival with Maddie, Loretta, Stella, Amy, Therese and Daniella, Katie was working so once her shift was over we bumped into her too. I didn’t buy anything because it was all out of my price range, but I am now in love with fur coats and will own one. Fun experiences too, including two very high and/or drunk men coming up to the group of us rapping some song to us. You get all sorts, hey. But came home, then went back out, first to Stacey’s for a bit of a pre-gathering, then to Tuttle’s. Tuttle is this kid who went to my primary school and is now all of a sudden friends with all of my friend, so hey. Decent night, crashed at Stacey’s. Didn’t really do anything Sunday, chilled with Luke a bit but then yeah. Didn’t want to do much on Sunday anyways, ha.

But yeah, this week’ll be good, hairdressers soon and such. I actually can’t wait to get my hair done, I haven’t for ages and I need a change.

I also need to change this layout. I know what I want to do but I’m so lackadaisical about it. Blah.

Today is January 1, 2011. I actually hate new years because I never get used to typing out the new year. You’ll wait, I am still writing 2009 so this’ll be a problem for me.

As you can tell, I came home early from my trip to see Jess early (I’m back today, Saturday, when I was meant to come back next Thursday) because I feel terrible. I need to get healthy soon because I’m going to die. I feel horrible about leaving but I still enjoyed my time down there, we went to the beach a lot and hung out around her place (her backyard faces a massive bay), rung in the new year with her & her brothers throwing glow sticks into the water. It was nice and relaxing until I started feeling sick. But I’m home now & will hopefully feel better.

But seeing as I’m home, and going through my favourite blogs seeing ‘Best of 2010′ posts, I figured this is a good time to reminise on my own 2010, so here we go!

So it started off like this;

Met this loser;

Saw friends a lot, few birthday parties, went to the Easter show…

Flew on my first plane, visited Melbourne;

Went on a school snow trip;

Said goodbye to an old friend & celebrated 6 months with this loser;

More time with new friends;

Studied like a maniac;

Went on some great school trips;

Celebrated 17 years alive;

Saw A LOT of films;

Changed my hair billions of times;

And ended the year visiting my best friend;

So I guess it was a pretty good year. A pretty active year full of new people and events that I never expected. This year finally felt like a teenage year; full of friends, boyfriends, drama… I have definitely changed this year but I think its ok.

So anyway, how was your new years/2010′s?
